ABSTRACT

Menstruation is a natural and regular process that occurs in females during their reproductive years. Nevertheless, menstruation remains enveloped by social taboos and baseless supernatural beliefs. Insufficient understanding and knowledge about menstruation can result in unsafe hygiene practices, which in turn elevate the chances of reproductive and genito-urinary tract infections, cervical cancer, school dropout rates, poor academic performance, and an overall reduced quality of life. Even though the health and education implications of inadequate menstrual hygiene knowledge are considerable, there is a clear neglect in addressing this issue, particularly among adolescent girls in rural areas of India, especially those who are attending school. As a result, the primary objective of this study was to evaluate the level of menstrual hygiene knowledge among first-year nursing students.

Key words: Knowledge, First year nursing girls, Menstruation, Menstrual Hygiene
